Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Within two years she was hired by NBC News as a Washington reporter. The year 1981 saw her begin covering the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She was appointed the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared as a guest on TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. Mitchell was on an audience for the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell was married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for journalism excellence, including the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell covered for the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy reports over time, including fiscal reform, the budget and the Iran Contra affair. Mitchell traveled extensively with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
